Anglo-Saxon Life and Religion

The Anglo-Saxon period was during the Dark Ages, it was a lengthy era. Anglo-Saxons were pagans, that meant they worshipped gods of nature and used springs, wells, rocks, and trees for reverences. Their religion was not the source of spiritual revelatoin, it was the means of ensuring their success in and for material things. For example, they would pray to a certain god or goddess for a successful harvest or a victory in battle. The Anglo-Saxons carried around charms and other objects of nature to ensure the gods' help in securing a desired outcome in the material worls. They did believe in an afterlife.There was even a possibility that female slaves may have been sacrificed on the death of a male owner, to include in the grave to accompany him in the next world.

The Anglo-Saxons worshiped to different Gods. Some of the Gods were; Woden, Frigga, Thor, Tyr, Bragi, Idunna, Forseti, Fulla, Geofon, Heimdall, Hana, Meomor, Vali, Vor, and Wuldor. Their Gods and Goddess controlled every part of their lifes such as birth, life, death, harvest, earth, sky, love, fertility, nature, weather, and much more.
